Weybridge Area Guide
Weybridge is an affluent town in the Elmbridge borough, north Surrey. Built around the picturesque River Wey which runs off the River Thames, it is popular with families as it offers an excellent standard of living due to its fantastic amenities, excellent schools and beautiful scenery. It is also extremely accessible as the road links are excellent with the A3, M25, M3 and M4 all being within easy reach as well as having excellent rail links to London in less than half an hour.
The town centre is full of character and charm and offers an array of eateries, local boutiques as well as all the essential amenities. There are so many outdoor spaces to explores such as enchanting woodland and long river walls along the towpath.
The area first came under the radar of the elite in 1912 when builder W.G. Tarrant started developing St George's Hill, an exclusive private estate of houses based on minimum 1 acre plots centred around a golf course. Today St George’s Hill is an extremely sought after private gated estate in excess of 900 acres and with 24 hour security and is home to many famous residents. It consists of over 400 homes and whilst there are an abundance of recently constructed mansions, many of the original Tarrant built houses still stand and are easily recognisable with their tall chimneys, dormer windows, gables, leaded lights, tile-hung or half-timbered or a combination of both; most using hand-made bricks and tiles. Facilities include the world renowned St George’s Hill Golf Club, a tennis club with its perfectly manicured grass lawn courts, and leisure facilities in the tennis club including a swimming pool, sauna, and beauticians. The clubhouse is the perfect place for residents to enjoy a coffee or a meal.
There are a number of other sought after private estates in the area as well as an excellent balance of family homes and apartments.
